ONE SHOT

Radhika and Arnav had been married for a year now.

Their union was not the result of a fiery passion or a fairy-tale romance rather, it was the result of mutual understanding and the assurance to their family. As both had reached a stage in their lives where settling down seemed more like a practical necessity for their family than an unmarried kids in their mid-30s at home.

Arnav Kapoor a gentle, caring, and collected man had accepted their compromise marriage.

On the other hand, Radhika a sweet loving women had a dark side that bothered her deeply she was afraid of being alone and darkness yes, she was claustrophobic.

Radhika was all by herself at Kapoor mansion on a rainy night, when the sky was covered with thick clouds and thunder rang out at a distance. The room was illuminated by occasional lightning strikes and the rain that fell down the windows slightly frightening her and to her bad luck the power went out she was plunged into darkness of the room, preoccupied by the memories of being alone as darkness triggered her past and it stood in front of her worrying her more.

Radhika’s breath became faster and her heart raced as she felt the walls are coming closer and encircling her. Her forehead began to form sweat buds.

She called him softly but with shaking voice , “Mr. Kapoor, please come soon.” she was shivering with fear. Arnav was surprised by the fear in Radhika’s voice, even though he had just returned from work, and was just entering the room when he hear her sobs. His normally composed demeanour gave way to concern as he rushed to her side.

There she was clustered in a corner, he bend down close to her, gently putting a consoling hand on her shoulder. “Its all right, Radhika. “I’m here,” Arnav said softly, as his voice provide a steady yet firm assurance amid her emotional turmoil.

Radhika turned to face him, her eyes widened with fear; however, when she saw the warmth and sincerity in his eyes, she felt a shift in her emotions with a sense of calmness.

She reached out and grabbed his hand tightly without thinking, hoping to find solace in his touch. Arnav didn’t turned backward rather, he gently squeezed her hand to show her, assure her that he was there right beside her she wasn’t alone.

As they sat there in the darkened room, the closeness between them grew more.

He kept his open hand over the one which is held by her.

Arnav : I will just turn on the emergency lamp.

She clutched him more and continuously kept nodding her head in No…..don’t leave me

Arnav : its jus the matter of a minute Radhika he tried to convince her and once she stopped her efforts he felt her grip loosening so he got up, a loud thunder strike frightening her, with an urgency she pulled him down and buried herself in his embrace he was taken a back with her studded move not knowing what to do they have never been this close ever it was jus till a slight handshake, or little tap and accidental touches.

Looking at her his heart gave in and he embraced her closer.

Arnav’s presence was calming, his touch was soothing, and Radhika began to relax in his warm hug. For the first time since they have been married, she allowed herself to lean on him, both physically as well as emotionally.

Arnav sensed her tension easing, but he also felt a different kind of tension building within himself – a longing he had kept buried deep within the layers of duty as a earning son and a husband.

As lightning strike without sound. He was drawn to Radhika she looked celestial in silver light. Today in many ways without his anticipation, not just out of concern for her well-being but out of a deeper desire to protect and care for her, he was there for her.

Neither Arnav nor Radhika had fully acknowledged this feelings until now in their marriage a sense of calmness like this.

Both remained close, their bodies almost touching, yet maintaining a respectful distance that spoke volumes of their unspoken attraction towards the other. She was in his side hug still her hear was racing but as he embraced her the heart calmed down steadily. Her eyes are still shut he was caressing her arm slowly patting her time to time.

Trying to distract her s bit he began talking about the topics not at all relevant to current situation but some what she was normal. As the light turned on she trying to adjust her eyes to open but a loud sound of electric burn out frightened her more. She was back in his embrace.

To ease her out he turned on the flashlight of his phone and kept it facing towards celling away from them not to disturb her.

Arnav brushed away a hair lock from her face, his touch was gentle yet charged with unspoken longing. As the warm fingers brushed her face, Radhika looked up at him her eyes meeting his with a mix of vulnerability of moment yet with a newly found trust for her husband. They both knew that something irrevocable had shifted between them today, something that moved the boundaries of their arranged marriage indeed brought them closer.

Arnav continued to comfort her more and more, his closeness offering her solace from her phobia. And in turn, Radhika allowed herself to be vulnerable in his presence, to let go of her fears and embrace the warmth of her husband.

She was looking pretty in the dim light of his phone. She was still clutching his right hand.

Intimacy between them grew more as they sat there in the dimly lit room. Radhika began to gaze into his eyes but shyness covered her face as the presence of Arnav and the comfort of his touch made her aware of the proximity they are in.

As the electricity remained off, Arnav and Radhika found themselves drawn to each other in ways they had never experienced before. The darkness seemed to heighten their senses, making every touch, every whispered word, more intimate and charged with budding love for each other.

Arnav, pulled up a blanket from bed wrapped it around Radhika’s trembling figure covering both of them his fingers brushing lightly against her skin. She shivered slightly, not from the cold but from the tingling sensation of his touch a longing ignited within her for him.

Their eyes met in the dim light, and in that moment, unspoken desires chocked their throats.

“Are you feeling better, Radhika?” Arnav asked softly, she looked up and nodded, her gaze locked with his, unable to tear herself away from the intensity of his presence. “Yes, Mr. Kapoor Thank you for being here.” she whispered.

Arnav smiled with gentleness.

Slowly, he moved closer, sitting beside her on the floor. Radhika’s heart quickened as she felt the heat of his body next to hers, a magnetic pull that she couldn’t resist anymore.

With a hesitant fingers, Arnav brushed Radhika’s face, his touch was like a peacock feather light and tender. She closed her eyes briefly, savouring the warmth radiating between them, surrounded by the darkness that shielded their intimacy, Arnav gently cupped Radhika’s face in his left hand his thumbs tracing her cheeks.

She could feel his breaths over her face.

“You’re so beautiful, Radhika,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

Which ran shivers down her spine.

Radhika’s breath caught in her throat at his words of passion it was something beyond imagination her cheeks flushing with a mixture of shyness and desire to stay close to him. She leaned more towards him a silent invitation an unsaid yes that spoke volumes of her own feelings. In the closeness of the moment, their hearts beat in synchrony, their breaths mingling with each other.

She was feeling him moving closer a thought ran off her mind what if he take her lips in his it’s her first kiss she got goose bumps with the thought.

But to her surprise Arnav’s lips brushed against Radhika’s forehead, a tender kiss filled with unspoken promises. Radhika trembled at the first touch of his lips on her skin, a cold wave of ran down her spine as she realized how gentleman her husband is he is indeed a priceless gem she have got.

Their hands found each other in the darkness, fingers entwining in a silent vow of mutual understanding and desire.

His other hand went into her locks while her other hand rested on his neck. Both rested their foreheads on each other.

As he traced his lips along her face and gave a slightly wet kiss on her cheeks she tured pink clutching her eyes as he was tracing further down towards her lips she blushed and hugged him tightly. Arnav held Radhika close to his heart in a protective shield, while Radhika melted into his embrace, her body moving against his with a signal that she is already into this. He smiled sensing her shyness.

In that moment of vulnerability and raw emotion of love they discovered today with a depth of connection that went beyond duty or compromise. It was a connection forged in lightning, a connection that whispered lots of promises yet to be fulfilled and passions yet to be felt.
